Our Economic Development and Commercial Revitalization programs continue to support and revitalize Cortelyou Road, Flatbush-Nostrand Junction and the Newkirk Plaza commercial corridors. FDC secured funding for and coordinated three capital projects to revitalize commercial main streets; $1.5 mil for Newkirk Plaza reconstruction project which included a new brick-designed pavement, banners, amenities and wrought-iron decorative fencing; another $1.4 million streetscape project for Cortelyou Road, and 4.5 million allocated for streetscape project for the Flatbush Nostrand Junction, where FDC shepherded in a new Business Improvement District (BID). The BID will include a retail complex with Target as its anchor. FDC also works with new and existing businesses through merchants associations and one-on-one small business technical assistance. FDC is dedicated to lasting improvement of existing businesses and the attraction of new businesses to the area. A recent Retail Strategy for Flatbush was conducted by Hamilton, Rabinowitz and Alschuler which has set the course in motion for a comprehensive Retail Action Plan for Newkirk Cortelyou and the Junction.
