Over 500 tenants and homeowners receive individual counseling and referrals on issues ranging from housing court assistance, apartment repairs, fire safety, and special services for seniors annually. FDC’s housing committee facilitates bi-monthly workshops on such issues as fire safety, lead-laws, and first time home buying.
FDC conducts building inspections and works with tenant associations and individuals to resolve disputes with landlords and encourage improved building conditions and safety. In addition, we facilitate monthly meetings of the Co-op Residents Association, to provide information, networking and support.
FDC spearheads the neighborhood Adopt-a-Spot Program and the Annual Neighborhood Clean-Up, that mobilizes more than 80 volunteers to paint over graffiti and pick up trash in the neighborhood. To adopt a spot near your home to keep free of graffiti contact gomez@fdconline.org.
Financial Literacy Course: Take control of your financial future by attending FDC’s free financial literacy course. Topics include credit, banking, debt and budgeting, tax breaks, financial aide to buy a home, and more. FDC also provides follow-up counseling and support for first time homebuyers. For further information on the next course, contact Aga Trojniak at housing@fdconline.org.
Each year, FDC presents the Victorian House and Garden Tour, featuring visits to classic homes and gardens within the neighborhood. To place an ad in the Guide to Victorian Flatbush, which reaches over 10,000 people, contact FDC at 718-859-4868 or contact gomez@fdconline.org. |
