Activity Specialist
About FDC:
FDC’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for all residents in the Flatbush community. FDC identifies and responds to neighborhood needs and concerns, proactively creating programs and campaigns that work towards a healthy, safe, and vibrant community.
To address the needs of Flatbush, FDC operates programs and services in five issue areas: Economic Development, Housing, Youth and Immigration Services, and Community improvement.
Role/Responsibilities:
- Conduct and supervise recreational and arts activities, and community action events and projects during the “Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds” after school program
- Develop curriculum utilizing youth development best practices
- Enforce program rules and regulations and adhere to DYCD OST handbook
- Work collaboratively with Program Aide to facilitate all recreational, artistic and short and long term project activities
- Work with youth to demonstrate improved recreational and artistic skills tied to school learning standards
- Arrange tournaments and other performances and events both in and after school which exhibit participants athletic ability and artistic expression
- Meet regularly with Director and Program Staff, providing feedback to enhance program
- Attend monthly staff development workshops
Qualifications:
- Requires license issued through the NYC Board of Education
- BA and extensive life experience in focused field of expertise
- Experience in education, youth development, and or social services
- Exceptional leadership skills
- Interested in running interactive curriculum with youth
- Knowledge of cultural backgrounds of program participants and the surrounding communities
- Bilingual a plus
Salary- Up to $25/hour
Sample schedule- Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm
