Housing & Advocacy

FDC works with residents on many different housing initiatives, including creating and maintaining tenant associations, working with tenants to take part in city and state-wide housing campaigns, tracking and monitoring buildings at risk of deterioration,  advocating on behalf of tenants in housing court, providing individual assistance to tenants in need of other services; and offering housing forums to support homeowners.

FDC provides housing support and eviction prevention by: Accompanying clients to court to advocate for their rights; Reviewing HCR reports, MCI increases, and lease renewals; Addressing overcharges with landlords directly; Requesting repairs via mail, phone, and HP action; Providing subsidy applications for SCRIE, DRIE and more;  Assisting with apartment searches; Facilitating senior housing applications; and Coordinating housing clinics.
