Social-Emotional Learning

Helping Children with Social Skills

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. We teach them to use their voice and how to understand that emotions are not bad to have, but need consistency on how to interact with their environment.

The kids are learning that their uniqueness connects and how we should embrace these differences to strengthen us collectively. One of the activities we use to achieve this is journaling, which is asking them to write how they felt through the day, their feelings. That way, they learn and feel liberated to address and express their emotions.
