Where Curiosity Leads the Way

Exploring Interests and Curiosity and Expanding Young Minds Every Day

The P.S. 217 LEAPS Program is a dynamic after-school program serving students in grades K–5, designed to spark curiosity and support holistic development through a club-based model centered on student interests. The program offers children opportunities to explore a wide range of activities that foster creativity, discovery, and a love of learning.

Grounded in strong partnerships with the school community, the program prioritizes academic success while also fostering meaningful family and community engagement.

It is intentionally designed to be family-friendly, offering flexible scheduling and a variety of activity choices that allow students to engage in ways that best meet their interests and needs.

Through enriching clubs, hands-on experiences, and educational trips and excursions, students are consistently exposed to new ideas, environments, and opportunities. The P.S. 217 LEAPS Program is committed to ensuring that every child has the chance to try new things, build confidence, and expand their horizons in a supportive and engaging environment.

Program Leadership

Christina Hyacinthe | Program Director, LEAPS

Christina Hyacinthe is a dedicated youth development professional and mother of three whose personal and professional journey is rooted in caring for others and supporting children’s growth. Her passion began at a young age while caring for her younger sister and peers, where she discovered the fulfillment of helping children learn and build confidence. Christina began her career in after-school programming with the Flatbush Development Corporation in 2017 as a Group Leader. Through her commitment and leadership, she was promoted to Site Supervisor in 2019 and advanced to Program Director of the FDC LEAPS After School Program in 2024. With over seven years of leadership experience, she is deeply committed to both youth development and staff mentorship.

Her leadership style is collaborative and democratic, emphasizing teamwork, open communication, and shared decision-making. Christina takes pride in fostering growth at all levels, empowering both young people and staff to build confidence and reach their full potential.
