Ditmas Park Day April 2023

Back to all articles

Ditmas Park Day Community, thank you for your contributions, joy and support!

We successfully beautified our neighborhood on April 23rd, 2023. With Beautify Brooklyn, volunteers helped to repaint the Newkirk Plaza Bridge and embellished it with hand painted flowers. At the Flatbush Food Co-op, free violet plants were given out, plants that are imperative to sustaining the native butterflies here in Brooklyn known as fritillaries, one of them being the Monarch butterfly.

Also on Newkirk Avenue was Shredzilla, where many people from the neighborhood stood in front of the massive truck and watched their documents get loaded into a garbage bin, gripped by a mechanic claw and then gobbled up whole by the mouth of shredzilla, very satisfying.

We are thrilled to announce we collected over 2 tons of electronics for recycling with WALTER Electronics Recycling and over 50 bags of clothing donations which will be turned into usable textiles and garments through the organization Wearable Collections.

On Cortelyou Road, we saw a bubble show and hula hooping from Bindlestiff Cirkus. The bubbled were giant.

Thank you Operation Gig for providing us with a piano and players. We got to enjoy live music by local artists as we ambled the sidewalks.

We’d like to thank all of the businesses and organizations who contributed to Ditmas Park Day! Brooklyn Artery, Cortelyou Road Merchants Association, Newkirk Community Garden, Taylor & Co Books, and Moana Love!
