World Culture Fair, Flower Potting and Candle Making at PS 217

It was a big day at PS 217 on Friday, May 19th. There was a World Culture Fair which entailed roughly 20 stations where teachers provided supplies to students to make a wide range of traditional trinkets and objects such as Indian Elephants, Nepalese Mandalas, paper flowers, Chinese dance ribbons and more. There were also four folk dance performances in the center of the school yard, one performed by each grade.

After the fair, Youths in the FDC After School program migrated to the cafeteria. The first and second graders got to decorate flower pots to later fill with soil and a flower.

On the other side of the cafeteria, the third graders made candles. These candles ranged from a wide variety of sophisticated scents such as dusty rose and calla lily. Once they heated up their candle wax using the hot plates, they could pour in the scent and infuse the candle. They were a great success.
